Cora: People of the Sierra Madre

Today six percent of Mexico is inhabited by native peoples who have maintained their indigenous lifestyles. Ten thousand of these people are the Cora Indians who live in the Sierra Madre Occidental, a rugged mountainous region in the Mexican state of Nayarit. The Cora have been among the most isolated of native peoples in Mexico. This isolation has allowed then to maintain their traditional customs and identity to a much greater extent than many other native Americans. Background readings accompany activities on Cora history, geography, legend, symbol, art and ceremony. 51 Pages
